Every person comes to training with different dreams and goals, and with the right support success for everyone is invevitable.
While many students are happy to jump straight in to online and practical learning, some find they appreciate more support following graduation to help build confidence and polish their skills. I recently completed a Swedish massage therapy course, and the experience exceeded my expectations in every way. Not only is Lindsey highly knowledgeable, she adapts to each individual learning style and level of competence. You will get hands-on training under instruction with constructive feedback and with the class sizes being small you really get the attention and instant feedback to improve techniques. Whether it's your first time or you're adding another string to your bow, I would definitely recommend Brookes training academy. I will definitely be back

Practical Instruction and Practice
The short massage courses spend an intensive one day (Solo Training) or two days (class or Group Training) in clinic learning and practicing the basic body massage techniques of effleurage and petrissage plus the defining Swedish techniques of tapotement. We focus on developing competent and confident delivery, correct stance and posture, client care, use of oils and massage mediums and how to modify and adapt treatment spaces and treatments themselves to favour the clients desired outcomes. This is your thorough grounding and introduction to the modality of body massage.
Online Self Paced Study
After enrollment you are required to pass an online assessment in Professional Standards following a short, self paced theory course. This is the basic background to being a successful and safe therapist. Once this is completed and your course fees paid in full you can book onto your practical training. You may choose from bespoke solo tuition on a requested date basis or a scheduled group class.
Prior to your course you will also need to study the Anatomy and Physiology portion of your theory course and pathologies. This information is clearly laid out online, is easy to digest and follow and support is available from your tutor if you have any difficulties with the material or organising your study sessions.
Case Study Skills Builder Programme
Because short courses are so intense, students can often leave practical training happy with their learning but struggle to get postgraduate practice in. Their skills languish and they lose confidence. To counteract this common problem, Brookes Therapy Training offers a programme of supervised or mentored case studies to be completed by students in the weeks immediately after their practical training to maintain momentum and support students over the initial hump of graduation. It enables students to really embed their new skills and experience a range of body types and client needs before branching out on their own. This can be done independently at your own treatment room or during mobile appointments or can be accommodated at our professional clinic and training venue.

You will join us in our thriving professional practice to learn hands on in a genuine salon environment.
Located within a respected and thriving Physiotherapy and Massage practice, Brookes Therapy Training not only offers excellent teaching but exposure to a real working environment and access to a wide variety of massage models and case study clients. We share experience of launching and running a successful therapy business regardless of the business model (part time, mobile, room rental, home based business) to ensure your success regardless of how you plan to practice.
Swedish Body Massage Short Course
Available to beginners, learners can chose to pursue a short course or industry standard qualifications.
Short courses are accredited, meaning that you will be able to get insurance which is the basic requirement to practice professionally. Treating clients for financial compensation without insurance leaves you without protection should a client sue for malpractice, injury or damage to property etc. So accredited training is mandatory if you wish to work on the general public.
The advantage of short courses is they are flexible, quick to arrange and if you are comfortable learning by self study, a cost effective way to get started on becoming a therapist. They are ideal if you plan to be self employed.
However, some employers and organisations, such as the NHS, Spas and Salons will not accept short courses as they require VTCT or ITEC Ofqual regulated training, which we also offer, so you need to research what it is you need so you're clear on the type of training you wish to do.
If you have completed short courses with Brookes Therapy Training you may upgrade to the ITEC or NVQ courses at a discounted rate which takes into account your prior learning with us.
We can only offer this to our own students at present as we know exactly how they have been trained. So it is a cost effective way to begin earning and saving towards upgrading your qualifications if you wish to do so.

Swedish Body Massage NVQ Level 3
Also available to beginners, the industry standard ITEC and NVQ Level 3 Courses are more in depth, require assignments, practical assessments and have examinations.
They take longer to complete but bestow graduates with greater professional competency and knowledge. They are also more expensive, however Brookes Therapy Training offers flexible course dates over weekends and evenings so you do not need to fit into a college daytime timetable which may clash with your work. We also run Intensive Training Courses where you can complete your practical training in a block. Residential intensive courses are also an option. If this is of interest to you, please mention it during your discovery call prior to onboarding or enrolling.
Anatomy & Physiology, Pathologies and theoretical subjects will be available for self paced study online plus live Zoom classes on Wednesday evenings, which will be recorded and available to playback for revision or for those who missed the live session. Practical tuition will take place over 5 weekends spread over 3 to 4 months with a final examination and practical assessment. Intensive practical courses will be over one week, 10-5pm usually for 6 days.

“Just wanted to say Lindsey Brookes is truly amazing at teaching, she started with me at the very beginning of my new journey into holistic treatments, teaching me how to do Swedish body massages, I then approached Lindsey a couple of years later to complete my reflexology course with her.
She is very patient and kind, I felt so at ease with her and didn’t worry about asking too many questions, she always found time to answer me
I have now set up my own business, so I’m a very happy lady xx.”

Experienced tutors lead all the practical sessions which are designed to build confidence and develop competence. Groups are small to maximise quality and personal attention. Course dates are flexible for solo courses so if you are focused on rapid progress, we can meet you exactly where you are.
Coaching our students not only in massage techniques, client care and safe practice, we teach about posture, self care and adapting your practice to maximise your career. Too many therapists end up with injuries or strain from poor practice and we make sure our learners are fully aware how to mitigate these issues and take good care of themselves as well as their clients.
Self paced learning keeps you in control of your progress and accessible tutors mean you can contact us if you encounter difficulties, so you are not unsupported. Lessons are accessible digitally and are easy to follow.
We cover Professional standards, Anatamony, Physiology, relevant Pathologies as well as client care, contraindications for safe practice and correct record keeping, hygiene and safety amongst other topics.
Any questions that your theory courses throw up can be discussed during practical training or you can contact your tutor during their Office Hours or book tutorial 1:1 time with them.
All professional qualifications are accredited by VTCT, The Beauty Guild or ABT and are insurable meaning you can have confidence that your training is backed by industry recognised bodies and you are safe to work with the public after graduation.
Experience has shown us that some students who are new to therapies, despite being fully competent may lack confidence after completing their courses and really benefit from a supervised post-graduate practice. Case studies are mandatory for some programmes, such as the ITEC and NVQ qualifications but mentored case study programmes are available to all Brookes Therapies students regardless of the programme.
This nurturing approach is a rarity among short course providers, but we are absolutely dedicated to sending our therapists out into the world full of confidence and great at what they do so their businesses and clients will thrive.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, some are experienced therapists undertaking CPD - Continued Professional Development - and some are stepping in to the area for the very first time. Some will be seeking employment with established organisations while others will be excited to launch or develop their own practice.
This can be a daunting journey, especially for those unfamilir with self employment or entrepreneurship. Our experienced tutors are available to offer guidance and coaching to support the first steps into launching a successful therapy business and to help established practictioners to grow.
Our professional clinic provides the perfect backdrop to delivering a first rate training experience and sets an example of good practice, excellence and exemplary client care. Our students learn in an environment with high standards, professional equipment and access to a range of clients. While colleges provide a facsimile of a RWE (real working environment) we provide the real thing which is a great benefit to all our learners.

“I was looking for someone to teach me Indian head massage and Lindsey was recommended to me by a friend who had attended massage training with her.
I never wanted to learn full body massage, just more holistic treatments to complement my Reiki treatments. I did the Indian head Massage training and then Reflexology training with Lindsey, plus a few Potions Club workshops where we played around with aromatherapy formulas and made products. So fun!
I loved every moment of learning with Lindsey, she is a fountain full of knowledge and always gives more. I got so much joy out of learning with Lindsey and then putting my skills to practice with my clients that I had really good feedback.
Her way of sharing her knowledge, supporting our growth has benefited my own holistic treatments. I can't thank this lovely lady enough for helping me hone the skills I needed to help support and guide others on their holistic journeys.”

Yes. Our accrediting bodies range from The Beauty Guild and ABT to VTCT and all are eligible for insurance to practice safely.
IFirstly give as much notice as is possible. If you have a communicabe infection of any kind it is a professional requirement to avoid spreading that infection to clients, models, fellow students and staff. If in doubt please ring us and we will advise you. Solo training may be rescheduled if we are notified 24 hours before training is due to start - or in the evening prior to training commencing in the morning. Class training will go ahead without you. You may be offered a place on a subsequent course or you may be required to upgrade to solo training to complete your practical instruction.
Most of the equipment you need will be provided for you at the training venue. You will be notofied of any specific requirements relating to your course on enrolling.
Professional attire requires a tunic or scrubs and we encourage you to think ahead to what you will choose to wear when you are working. We recommend this as massage oils may get on your clothing and spoil regular clothes. Also professional attire creates a stronger impression with clients. However we invite you wear comfortable non slip footwear with a closed toe, layers for warmth and comfort that may be removed in warm weather and whatever clothing you plan to deliver treatments in in the future.
Yes. Long nails and touch therpies do not mix unfortunately and polish can conceal poor health in nails, dirt and other problems. When you lightly touch your face with your fingertips, you shouldn't feel your nails. Please file them short and smooth for training. After graduation you can choose to paint them if you wish but do remember basic hygiene. Get in touch to check with us if you aren't sure. The instructor may ask you to file your nails if they're too long and remove polish whih will waste valuable learning time. We need to see that nails are spotlesssly clean, smooth and healthy and a safe length for client comfort.
Yes for ITEC / NVQ courses, but case studies are not mandatory for short courses. The case study programme is an option to help build confidence, give you time to practice so youu can be sure your treatments are exemplary and create space to be comfortable with your new skills.
